Redo Vasectomy Reversal Outcomes Presented at SMSNA Annual Meeting — October 2024
Our experience in Redo vasectomy reversal cases was presented at the Sexual Medicine Society of North America Annual Meeting — 25th Annual Fall Scientific Meeting in October 2024.
This retrospective study analysed outcomes in 72 patients who had previously undergone unsuccessful reversal procedures elsewhere.
Key findings:
- 82% patency rate in redo cases
- Mean obstructive interval: 10 years
- Mean patient age: 48.8 years
Redo reversal surgery is technically more demanding due to scar tissue at the previous surgical site. Despite this, the outcomes demonstrate that high success rates are achievable in specialist microsurgical centres.
An important scientific finding from this study was that vasal fluid grading (Silber scale) did not reliably predict surgical success. This suggests that intraoperative appearance alone should not be used to deny patients the opportunity for a redo procedure.
